Wire Basket (WB) strainers, fabricated entirely of wire mesh, can offer significantly lower pressure drop losses than similar strainers of perforated plate.
The specifier must,
however, be very cautious in specifying wire mesh baskets due to their
construction limitations. Inherent construction features severely limit the
allowable differential pressure these strainers can withstand. These strainers
are recommended only for light duty service.
